Blueberry Cafe Midlands Meander

The setting of this enchanting, rustic cafe is reason enough to pay them a visit! Perched at the top of a rugged, rocky hill, overlooking more rolling hills, alpacas (if you’re lucky), herds of cattle, and mountains in the distance, this is one beautiful location and Blueberry Cafe Midlands Meander is not to be missed!
THEY SERVE: Freshly baked cakes and muffins, blueberry cheesecake that is to die for! Divine coffees and teas, a farmers breakfast, yoghurt terrine with muesli or a simple egg on toast, lunch options include a legendary beef burger (this was good!!), spinach and feta chicken, beef fillet, falafel and bulgar wheat salad (what I had and my heart was happy), cajan chicken salad and toasties.

A few weekends ago, this is where we were – the misty misty Midlands for a night. It was COLD, you have to understand, we are used to winter daytime temps of around 20°C. So to say we were feeling a little out of our comfort zone is a bit of an understatement. But we loved it just the same.

Don’t let the cold put you off, because you will feel right at home in the warm and cozy Blueberry Cafe! We sat right by the fire on the far right of the restaurant, and although we couldn’t see much out the glass doors for the heavy mist, the atmosphere was very wintery and lovely…Just what we had been looking forward to in fact.
And in the summer months it’s warm in the Midlands, and you will be able to see for miles at Blueberry Cafe Midlands Meander.

I had the falafel bulgar wheat salad – probably the BEST falafel I’ve ever had…And the bed of bulgar wheat salad with roasted butternut, feta and blueberry basil pesto was absolutely scrumptious!
Michael had the homemade beef burger patty served on a toasted ciabatta bun, topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, rocket and caramelised onions, and mushroom sauce. Wow, I had a taste and it was as yum as it sounds.
You’ll want to pay a visit to the bathrooms at this cafe, even if nature isn’t calling…
How cool is that?! Yup, them cows are right there… They say “Don’t worry, only the cows can see you”.
We took a stroll outside before we left to get some photos of the cattle that graze in front of the restaurant…Temperatures had dropped substantially from the time we arrived!
Blueberry Cafe Midlands Meander sits on Netherwood Farm in Nottingham Road – Anyone who’s been to the Midlands will recall Nottingham Road – there are many attractions that will be sure to catch your eye.
Activities and fun attractions on Nottingham Road:
- Piggly Wiggly, a restaurant surrounded by little gift shops, a wine cellar, pizza place and so much more! (We stopped here for coffee on our way up – it was raining and they had the fires going and it was so cozy inside!)
- Aladdin’s De-light, selling unique stained glass and ceramics
- Indigo Fields African Bush Spa, massages take place in tents open to the gorgeous surroundings (I haven’t been but it looks incredible!)
- Fly fishing at Fordoun, fish for trout in one of South Africa’s premier fly fishing destinations
- Gowrie Market, a fresh produce market sourced from surrounding farms as well as freshly baked goods, flowers, cheeses, pork products and more
- Bierfassl, a quaint Austrian tavern (we had dinner here and you can expect LARGE portions of hearty Austrian fare – we certainly didn’t leave hungry)
- Chocolate Heaven, hand-crafted artisan chocolates with 40 combinations to choose from – YUM
I highly, highly recommend you visit Blueberry Cafe Midlands Meander, in fact I’d say you should plan several visits because I’m feeling a little sad that I didn’t get to try everything on the menu! When can we go back?
