It’s time to reveal the living areas of our sweet home! Today I’m sharing photos of the completed living and dining areas, both open-plan and free flowing from indoors to outdoors with large sliding doors that magically disappear when fully open…
Here we go with House Update Vol. 5 – Living!
You can check out all of my previous House Updates from breaking ground to where we are now here.
We chose a walnut wood floor for the entire house to compliment the exposed brick which features throughout the home.
The exposed beams which we painted a crisp white create such a spacious, open and homely feel.
We wanted the metal plates on the beams to be black to tie in with the gorgeous matt black island in the kitchen, and all the black accents throughout like the cabinet handles, sink mixers, light fittings and the fans.
After a little deliberation we went with white walls everywhere, except for the master bedroom (check back soon for those photos and pics of the guest bedroom which I love so much!).
Seeing as we are selling this house, we haven’t put up curtains in the living area though this is definitely something I would do if we were staying to bring in a little softness – I love a white floaty curtain, especially when you live on the coast and so this is probably what I would go for in here.
Similarly, if we were staying I would most likely add a few more accessories, perhaps a standard lamp and definitely some more personalised items like photographs etc.
I would most likely change up the colours of the throw cushions and bring in a little more “me” to the space.
I’m someone who likes to mix colour together in a way that appeals to me at the time, and I’ll swap things around between rooms and mix and match according to my mood and the time of the year.
But we’ve kept it simple and more of a blank canvas so that the buyers can imagine all the possibilities rather than overloading the space with our own personal taste.
That being said, this home is definitely a reflection of our style – I love an eclectic mix of old and new, I enjoy a lot of neutrals with splashes of happy colour and I like incorporating texture – hard and soft into a space to give it a nice balance.
My favourite piece is the photograph that I took on the Zambezi River of 4 elephants crossing – they had made it onto a bank in the middle of the river and so were quite exposed – this is a sight I have seen only once in my life which is amazing considering the amount of time I spent in these areas, and I love that I caught it on camera.
We had it printed onto a massive canvas and it’s hopefully going to go with us from home to home for many years to come!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this House Update Vol. 5 – Living and that you’ll check back soon for the next home post which will be a bedroom reveal!
We were given a beautiful Persian rug last year by Mike’s brother, and I decorated our guest bedroom around the colours in the rug – I just love how it turned out.
Until then, I hope you have some happy days and catch ya later.
