Dafo Buddhist Temple In Guangzhou China
Posted on December 14 2019
A Buddhist temple in Guangzhou, Guangdong, located in Yuexiu District, tucked away on a side road off the popular shopping stretch of Beijing Street, Dafo Buddhist Temple In Guangzhou China is a sight to be seen!
One of the few touristy things we did while we were in China was visit this beautiful Buddhist temple in the middle of town.
The day we were there it was a bit rainy so the photos are a tad misty, but it was still lovely, and very peaceful.
Dafo Temple is a grand temple with a history of more than one thousand years and was built by Emperor Liu Yan in the Southern Han dynasty (917–971).
It has been praised as one of the “Five Largest Temples of Guangzhou” in history.
Although it was destroyed and rebuilt many times and has been used for a number of different purposes over the years, it is currently restored to its’ former glory and used as it was first intended – as a Buddhist temple.
There are three copper statues of Buddha situated in the Mahavira Hall; the statues are 6 metres (20 ft) high and weigh 10 tonnes. They were the largest statues in the Lingnan Region when they were built.
Although we didn’t really explore inside the temple (I wish we had, but it was too late in the day), I believe there is much to see.
There is even a large vegetarian restaurant along with a vegan buffet inside the gold buddha temple!
If you ever find yourself in the area, you should definitely consider paying Dafo Temple a visit!
