Today I’m sharing some of our wedding photos here on the blog, it’s taken me a minute but here we go! We wanted a simple wedding focused on the truly important aspects of the day, I went for a no-frills approach to the decor and allowed the beautiful ocean view to take centre stage.
We chose our venue shortly after getting engaged in mid November 2020. You can read Our Engagement Story if you haven’t already.
We got engaged at Salt Rock Hotel, and it’s always been a special place for us to go on the weekends for breakfast or lunch, or afternoon tea and scones, and even a dinner here and there.
This hotel has such a colonial, homely feel to it, while at the same time giving us all the island vibes.
It was an obvious choice for us and we secured our date for Saturday 8 May 2021.
There were certainly some ups and downs planning a wedding during a pandemic, especially seeing as my immediate family live in another country and my extended family are scattered all over the world.
At one point it seemed I might not have a single family member here – which was a sad moment indeed.
Thankfully, that didn’t happen and my mom and a few of my family members managed to be here, as well as some very special friends who travelled from my home country (Zimbabwe).
Also thankfully, Mikes family and friends were all able to be there as they are all from South Africa and we were so grateful to each and every person for making the effort to be with us.
All that’s left to say is that we wanted a wedding that was very “us” – and that’s certainly what we got!
It truly was such a special day, we loved every moment, felt very relaxed, supported and loved.
Looking for some honeymoon destination ideas? We would have loved to have honeymooned in Europe, and this comprehensive Honeymoon In Greece Guide will help you to decide if you’re pondering the idea.
I do think the difficulties that lead up to our wedding day (thanks pandemic) made us appreciate the friends and family that were there with us, and the moment itself so much more than we perhaps would have otherwise.
I’m going to let the photos do the talking now…
After we cut our cake at around 8pm we had the most almighty downpour with violent lightning and massive thunder claps, lol, the sky opened up and nearly drowned us all!
Thank heavens we had decided to hire a marquee that very same week…
BUT, in Africa, rain on your wedding day is a huge blessing and apart from the fact that the bottom of my dress was pitch black with dirt by the end of the night, the rain just made the evening all the more fun, and we danced the night away with our nearest and dearest.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of our wedding day photos (taken by the talented Chare Taylor, who you can find on Instagram @charetaylorphotography), and check back soon for more new posts!
For those who have been asking, we DO plan to eventually have some kind of honeymoon – hopefully in Bali if all goes to plan.
But first, we must sell our home that we just finished building – You can check out the progress here -> House Update Vol. 4 – Kitchen.
Until next time! xxx
