5 Reasons To Visit Worcestershire, England

Posted on February 11 2021

When you think of England, many different things come to mind like afternoon tea, a distinct accent, the Queen and obviously, London. For many, travelling to England is just about visiting London, seeing the sights and then going home. But just like every country, England has plenty of less well-known hidden gems worth exploring. One of these is Worcestershire.

Nestled in the West Midlands of the country, Worcestershire is a quaint and picturesque area of the country with a lot to offer.

The region is famous for tangy Worcestershire Sauce as well as Royal Worcester Porcelain, both world-renowned for their quality and uniqueness.

In this quick guide, I’m going to look at the top 5 Reasons To Visit Worcestershire, England – this less commonly mentioned area of England, so that you can decide whether it’s right for you and your family.

Here are my top 5 Reasons To Visit Worcestershire, England:

1. Proximity to the Cotswolds

To start with, Worcestershire is one of the best places to stay if you want to be nearby the Cotswolds.

The Cotswolds are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and are world-renowned for the incredible views they hold.

Whilst not in Worcestershire themselves, the rolling hills and open fields of the Cotswolds can be easily reached from hotels and holiday caravan sites near the Worcester area.

Detailing what the Cotswolds have to offer is worthy of an entire post of its own but if you enjoy being outdoors on your own or with your kids…

Then exploring this exceptional place is a wonderful family activity and definitely worth your time!

2. Old Architecture

From Worcester Cathedral through to the Avoncroft open-air museum, Worcestershire has some historic architecture available to see and walk through.

The Cathedral was constructed in the late 11th Century and is home to tombs, crypts and rooms linked to English royalty covering the last millennium – all housed in a beautiful stained-glass building.

The Avoncroft Museum is more of a one-stop-shop for old architecture. Specialising in historic buildings.

This museum is a collection of old structures which have been moved and authentically rebuilt to display architecture through the ages.

A great reason to visit this region of the country if you’re interested in history.

3. Unapologetically British

London is a very multi-cultural city. Due to its booming tourism industry and position as a financial hub, there are lots of different types of people in London and in some ways, you won’t get the authentic English experience by visiting there.

On the other hand, Worcestershire is a wealthy area of the country with a quainter atmosphere.

There are tea rooms (how could you not sample their authentic afternoon tea and scones?!) and traditional pubs to visit, lovely countryside walks, and in general, you will see a lot more stereotypical ‘Englishness’ in the area.

If you’re interested in that, then Worcestershire is a great place to start.

4. Incredible Natural Beauty

Worcestershire is home to some incredible natural wonders.

Most notably, Malvern Hills is another AONB and gives you stunning views of the region’s landscape and sights.

Whether you enjoy hiking, cycling or even horse-riding, there are multiple ways to climb the hills in your own time and enjoy the natural atmosphere and cool breeze.

If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway during a hectic holiday, a day trip to Malvern Hills is a great way to unwind and appreciate the natural beauty of the area.

5. Unique Wildlife

Finally, whilst I’ve mentioned how beautiful Worcestershire’s settings are, I can’t conclude without talking about the wildlife.

This region’s wildlife is incredibly varied, ranging from rodents and birds to insects and lizards.

In fact, Worcestershire is home to multiple conservation projects and rare species which you might be able to see if you’re lucky and visit at the right time.

Two examples of these rare species are the Bechstein bat and noble chafer beetles, both elusive creatures native to a few counties in England and Wales.

If you’re interested in seeing new creatures or learning about their quirks, this area of England is sure to work well for you.

Whilst there is plenty more to mention, these top 5 Reasons To Visit Worcestershire are some of the major attractions that Worcester offers.

If you’re interested in a peaceful, natural or historic visit to England, you can’t go wrong with this area of the country.

Just remember to do some additional research and find out exactly what you want to do and where you want to stay before you set off.
